Re: Help! Can't keep anything down not even water.. Sick
Hi yes dehydration could be a difficulty and the emergency room could be seen. They can put an I.V. in if needed for rehydration and help evaluate what is wrong.
One could wait until hungry or a few hours whichever comes first and then try a sip of cool water. If that is retained more can be taken until one can drink a comfortable amount. Then as water is retained a little fresh apple juice might be tried. If that is kept a little full liquid such as milk might be tried. If that is retained after 5 hours a little soft food such as mashed potates might be tried or rice and toast or dry oatmeal crackers. Oatmeal is made in fairly thick consistency and let sit about 20 minutes and then sliced with a spatula, it is put on an oiled cookie sheet and dried slowly at about 250 degrees or so, when the top is fairly dry maybe 30-40 minutes it is turned and the other side done until fairly dry, but maybe not real hard if desired. There are many causes for these symptoms that is why maybe an evaluation might be very appropriate. Peace sjb

I second the thought of tiny sips of gatorade or gingerale. If you can't keep anything down for 12 to 24 hours, then you can start thinking about going to the ER for an IV. But most stomach bugs don't last that long.
