My girlfriend has been having issues with having a sharp pain about an inch above her spleen in the rib area, located near the bottom of her breast. It has been going on for about a year now, it has gotten worse recently over the past few months, and it gets worse each time, it brings her to tears, when it finally subsides it's a dull throbbing achy feeling, weather the dull pain, the aching or the sharp pain is there or not, the ribs are always sensitive, I can't touch them without her complaining that they are hurting. She can't take any type of breath in, she can let out as much air as she wants, the pain recently has started lasting longer than it has before.
Her Doctor told her that it was from lack of exercise and stretching, stretching only helps bear the pain, and she has increased the amount of exercise recently, by a lot.
If you have any clue what it could be, reach me and let us know. Just trying to get some info to hold us off until another doctors appointment.
Hi..I would definitely urge her to request a referral to a gastroenterologist. Yes, gallbladder issues can cause left-sided pain, but so can pancreatitis, gastritis, Crohn's, continual gas, hernia, paralysed diaphragm...just to name a few..
Has the doctor done the basics such as blood testing, ultrasound/x-ray/MRI?
A year of that with the diagnosis of lack of exercise is remiss on the doc's part.

The only thing close to blood testing that she's had done is a pap test recently, she has had an MRI and blood tests done, but that weas years ago when she got into an accident. Same with the X-rays. Nothing recent, (she's deathly afraid of health concerns too, of x-rays and MRI's, and hates needles, to the point where she will cry)
