| Re: can someone help me stop counting in my head
Uncontrollable counting, like other repetitive thoughts that one can't stop, are sometimes related to obsessive or compulsive thought patterns. These serve no purpose, but take up "space" in your head when you aren't thinking of something else more purposeful. The tendency for this sometimes runs in families. One way to curtail it is to realize that your mind is on "automatic pilot" when you are doing this, and engaging your mind in something else where you are focused or distracted from the counting can help stop the cycle. If you find this problem is impossible to control, I would talk to your Mom and Dad about it, and perhaps they will have you see a Dr. or counsellor to give you ideas to work with. Music is a great way to keep your mind occupied when you aren't busy. Many people have this problem and find ways to control it, so you are not alone, and there is help available for ideas on dealing with it.
