Question Weird stomach/back pains.

Hey, I'm new.
I've chosen to do this as a sort of last resort.
Obviously if someone picks up on something that sounds like it needs medical attention, I will take a trip to my doctors. I just don't like wasting their time when the pains I'm experiencing are probably just something minor that I can help fix myself at home.

On the 28th of October, I started to feel dull pains in my stomach and a bit sicky. I put it down to a party I'd had the night before, although I hadn't drank half as much as I usually would have. The next day, it was still there, except now, it wasn't that I felt sick, or had dull pains. It was just very uncomfortable to touch my ribs or the lower part of my stomach. It wasn't agony and my mum put it down to trapped wind. I was also late on my period, very exhausted and felt sick on and off. I took pregnancy tests to rule that out. I still haven't started my period now, and I think that may be due to me stopping taking my contraceptive a couple of months ago, even though I'd had a normal period last month.

The pains were then in my back, when I breathed in. The pain was under my right shoulder blade, and opposite where the pain in my rib cage was. Eventually it got to the point where the whole stretch from the front of my right side to the right side of my back was uncomfortable to touch. It felt almost bruised. But eventually, after a couple of weeks, it went away.

Now, at the time of writing this, for the past 3 days, only once a day. I've had 2 sharp, tight pains one after the other on my left side. Seems under my rib cage but I'm not sure where it is. It's hard to detect when it comes so quick.

I know it must be painful, because I have quite a high threshold for pain, and when these two pains come I actually wince out loud and temporarily lose all awareness of anything I'm doing.

It's probably nothing. It may simply be because of ending my contraceptive pill. Or maybe because I dieted a month ago and lost about 10lbs, then life started getting me down and I stopped my diet and my body is just telling me off for it. Who knows?

I'm generally a healthy person. Nothing in my past signifies anything. I'm 18. Fairly active to an extent. Eat healthily (although because of these pains, I only have a sandwich or two a day and that's it. Eating makes the pains worse.)

Oh I'm a smoker too. I also feel bloated alot with these pains, and I've also been burping/breaking wind more often that usual. I feel fat and many friends have told me I look pregnant at night! Due to bloating - although I know I have no reason to be bloated. It's all very odd!

Anyone has any ideas or insight, I'd be grateful!

Many thanks.
Health and happiness,

Hannah.

Re: Weird stomach/back pains.

hi, sorry this is happening. one thing comes to mind and that is gallbladder. does the pain come on about 3-4 hours after eating? it can cause pain all up in back/neck/shoulder, make you gassy, give you diarrhea and stuff.

one way to check is to eat a low-fat diet for about a week and see if it gets better. when you eat fat your gallbladder puts out bile to break it down and if its not working right it will cause pain. or you could just go ahead and go to the dr they can check you out. Cathy

Re: Weird stomach/back pains.

Look up MS Hug. If this describes your pain, get your doctor to order an MRI of the brain.

Thank you for your response. I was worried nobody would reply. I've read a couple things on the internet that pointed to Gallbladder too. I was just baffled with how the pain was shifting around to different areas. The really intense pains (the two that come one after the other once a day) I haven't really tracked as to when it happens. But I'm gonna grab something to eat in a minute and I'll see if it happens 3/4 hours afterwards. I might go to my GP to be on the safe side. Thanks again!

Do you think it could be something as serious as that?
I suppose it's good to keep all theories in mind. *sigh*
Thank you for your response. If this helps point to anything else, I'm also urinating very frequently. Sorry for the details/TMI - just want to be sure everyone knows everything.
Thanks again x

Re: Weird stomach/back pains.

MS is not a death sentence....as long as you have a good doctor. They suspected
I had it at age 27. After diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia and muscle spasms in back, at age 55, a trauma caused my body to cave in. I would have these "attacks" about every 3-5 years, then last year they were every week. Doctor scheduled stomack tests and my friend told me to google MS Hug. I did and had a brain MRI the next day. I am 56. My doctor tried everything to prove it was not MS, but it is. I have good days and if I would learn to pace myself on those good days, I would not have as many bad days.

Re: Weird stomach/back pains.

I don't get muscle spasms in my back, or any of the other symptoms you described. The only thing I will agree with is being tired. All the time. Mum thinks I'm a little stressed - I suffer on and off with depression and anxiety - although I can't think of any major stressors at the minute, life is just getting me down.
So my fatigue (no matter how much sleep I do or do not get, I just feel exhausted) could be down to just feeling miserable. And who knows, maybe my pains too?
I've felt lousy all day today - my stomach just constantly feels empty, as if I haven't eaten when I have. There's a griping pain in my left side again - although I'm still waiting for those two very sharp consecutive ones. Not looking forward to it - who knows, they may not come today? Maybe I'm just being silly and over dramatic - I just feel so weak.
At 18 years old, I should be full of energy and living life to the full - but my back just aches. And I feel so worn out and withered, as if I've lived a hard life.
I shouldn't be feeling like this

Re: Weird stomach/back pains.

You are NOT being silly. I felt that way at 14. I have had chronic fatigue since junior high. I just kept on keeping on because that is how I was raised. I was a single mom for 14 years and had to take breaks and lay down on the couch in the ladies room at work. Listen to your body, you know your body better than any one. If I had not pushed myself and worked in extreme stressful positions, I do wonder if my body would be doing better that it is. It took me watching my sister die when they gave her a dose of Dilaudid after removal of one of her kidneys and the other kidney was not functioning. She died within 30 minutes. If that had not happened, I would probably have pushed myself working as a Parole Officer (which I have cried many tears giving up working), and I would be in a wheel chair. I praise God my friend sent me for the test. I take medication for the fatigue, pain, and am starting a new book of life taking care of myself.

Keep a diary, don't stop until you get answers. As we look back over the past 25 years, I had all symptoms listed on Mayo Clinic and Web MD for MS, reported to my doctor, even sent me to a Neurologist and no one caught it. We do not have any specialist is this area. I drive 8 hours to my doctor. She thought I had Lyme disease, Sjogrens syndrome, Lupus but after the spinal tap and all of the blood work....I finally got a diagnosis and on treatment.

So many things cause fatigue.... thyroid problems, hormones...it doesn't mean it is bad. Your blood work will tell how healthy your immune system is and if you have inflammatory antibodies in your system. Hang in there....I used to think I fit the commercial on depression, but I have never been happier. But deep inside, I knew something was wrong. TAKE CARE AND NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!

Re: Weird stomach/back pains.

I thank you for sharing your personal experiences with me, you are a very inspirational lady.
You deserve the very best.
I intend to visit my GP next week, and that's a promise - though the pains haven't been SO bad past few days - since I posted. My body is annoying! Haha

All the best x
