Pain radiating from back to front

Hello,
I am having certain pain that is causing loss of sleep. The pain starts as a sharp stabbing pain in the middle of my back that wakes me up. It then radiates to the front just below the rib cage. This pain continues and then subsides after being awake for about an hour. I have been to the doctor with test for kidney and liver functions and all come back as normal.
The front pain increases with the touching and pressure.
My doctor appears stumped on this one. Of course the back apin and radiation does not occur during office visits.
Any suggestions or causes avaiable.

Thank you.

Re: Pain radiating from back to front

Hi, Does the pain radiate toward the left or right? I had a very similar experience and it was my gall bladder. It woke me up ...the pain was in the middle of my back to my shoulder blade sometimes and radiated to the front right, sometime up into the front shoulder and even into my jaw at times. Just a thought...best of luck with it.

just a shot...ask him to ultrasound your gall bladder. You have nothing to lose but a possible diagnosis to gain! Best of luck with it! Keep us posted please.

Hi billg, Welcome to healthboards. Im sorry that your dr couldnt help you & i wanted you to know that i would, if it were me, go back to dr if it persists & ask him/her to do more testing to at least get me in the correct area of medicine so i could see a specialist. For example, i would want a Ct of abdomen and an mri of back, urine & blood labs so i would know if i needed a kidney, spine or gastro specialist. I hope that this gets better for you.

Thanks to all of the replies. Will research further and find a pain specialist.
