MTHFR - Gene Mutation - Anyone know anything?

After years of battling depression (not major), anxiety, food allergies, heavy metal poisoning, probably adrenal fatigue, I've discovered that I'm MTHFR - compound hetero for C677T and A1298C.

I just started Deplin 7.5mg (generic- l methylfolate) 4 days ago. I've been very drowsy waking up. Is this common?

I'm wondering if the reactions to gluten, dairy, etc. are a result of the mutation and will become minimized after treatment or if I'll have to really work on cutting out gluten and dairy from my diet.

Can one heal simply by increasing methylfolate in the system?

When doing detox baths, how frequently can this be done without doing damage? 1x per week, 2x per week, etc???

Are glutathione IVs an important part of getting better?

I've spent so much money with supplements, seeing the Dr., testing, etc. it's getting ridic. I thought that learning about MTHFR as the potential underlying cause was a turning point, but it sounds like supplementing L-meth is just the beginning. Any thoughts, insights, encouragement would be most helpful.

Thanks

Re: **MTHFR- Gene Mutation- Anyone know anything?**

I have no answers for you. But I wanted you to know that I recently found out I have this gene mutation as well! Mine is the **** compound C677T though. My doctor is putting me on Metanx since Deplin was going to cost me a lot. It is being sent through the RX mail order..so I should get it any time.

I have been to doctors, specialists, done research on my health history and symptoms with no explanation mostly..until now. This could be the culprit of my problems and I am excited to start a medication that could help all of my current problems.

I wish you luck in your journey to great health and ENERGY!

Re: **MTHFR- Gene Mutation- Anyone know anything?**

I'm MTHFR A1298C +/-, among other things. There's a lot more to it than simply taking methyl folate for many people, including me. Of course, I have EDS and appear to have a G6PD deficiency issue, mast cell activation syndrome and a few other not-so-nice issues. Now that you know about MTHFR, you may want to work through your doctor to learn more about your genetics *or* you might want to take something like the 23andme test and start into this journey on your own. There is a lot of information online, and it is expanding all the time. So it is a matter of pacing yourself and not getting too worked up about anything. I find that I have to take a break every hour or so or I'll drive myself nuts with worry!
