My son aged 48 has just commited suicide by hanging, we did not see this coming, we was married so we did not see him all the time, but how could he call us on the phone seeeming bright and coherant ant 3 hrs later take his won life, we searched the house for pills (Oxycontin) and did not find any just the containers, he has been on this since dec )7 for back pain, have you any explanation.

Dear mexshirl,

I am so sorry for your loss and what you and your family must be going through right now. You said it was suicide. Are you sure about that? It's possible he took too much and had an accidental overdose. If he was on oxycontin since December, he could very well have become addicted. One's body builds a tolerance to pain meds pretty quickly and it takes more and more to get the "good feeling" most addicts are chasing.

You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I know whether it was suicide or accidental, he's still gone and that has got to be your biggest heartbreak.

sometimes i hear that when they've made their mind up that they get sort of a high. that's what happened to my friends sister. sort of like they found an escape.so sorry for your pain

Oxycontin, like any other opiate, can cause psychological disturbances. I don't think it is possible to know which patient will react in which way. My husband took that for pain for terminal cancer and go very confused. Then we changed to a different kind of opiate and he was ok. So each body reacts differently.

I am so sorry for you pain.
