My bil passed away after battling with cancer since 2/09.
He was at home until the day before he died. My sister just couldn't handle having to hit the morphine pump every 15 min because my bil couldn't. She did her best and I think she has paid a price emotionally and physically, but she would have it no other way. Dying from cancer is so very painful and you have air hunger. He just didn't get enough air toward the end. He said he was in pain all over and even the pump didn't help.
They live in another state so I wasn't around, but I was with him on his birthday the end of February! Spent five days with him and sis. We started out not being too close, but the last few years we grew a bound. I'm gonna miss him.
When they say 'you never know' you really never do. He was given all kinds of survival times and none of them were true. When he died they said he had at least a week. So don't base your decisions on that. If you need to make plans to see someone, don't wait too long.
Time spent together is to be cherished.
