I have been on Synthroid and Cytomel for about a 1 1/2 years now I got a little of my hair back but not nearly as much as I would have liked. It is impossible for me to loose weight without totally cutting food out of my day. I thought I was going Bald but no one in my family has ever lost there hair. I can not figure out why my hair is not getting any thicker even though my Thyroid is within normal range. Is there another type of medication that I can use or what is going on can anybody please HELP ME I am loosing MY MIND.

Once you are balance you should beable to loss weight.. I take primrose 1300mg and Biotin 2500mcg. for the hair loss( found at health food stores) it has helped alot and my hair stopped falling out also... God Bless,Marcia

Thanks Marcia I really appreciate your response I will try and get those items you spoke of. Can I get them at GNC? My hair is not falling out as much as it is not coming back so maybe those supplements will help. I do not really think I am under the kind of control I need so I am going to talk to my Dr and get my blood results and I will post them maybe that will help. Thanks again.

Hi Donnie 317. You mention that on Synthroid and Cytomel that you are in "normal ranges". Where in the normal ranges??? Do you know where your freeT3 and free T4 are? For some people, hair loss doesn't stop until you get those ranges in the upper end. And neither does the problem with weight. It appears you have to have both the T3 and T4 up there to get results!

Also, female hormones can come into play. My hair was still falling out when my fT3 was very high and optimal. I now realize it's because I have been on synthetic female hormones. I have recently made a switch to using compounded natural estrogen and progesterone, and I am fairly sure it will be the final step in stopping the hair loss.
