I am 21 years old and have always had kinda a high hairline and not really thick hair. Recently I had my hair dyed black and i started using spiking gel to spike it. This usualy takes me 10 minutes to do to get it fully dried and spiked. I have been noticing hait stuck to my fingers when I am done, and the longer I have to mess with my hair the more hair I seem to shed. I know my moms dad is bald and I am bound to be bald also, but could my hair loss be due to the gel or dye? When I go a couple days without gelling it I dont seem to lose much at all. I also have it dyed in a salon with good dye. Thanks!

It's possible that a substance like hair gel can cause your hair to react, but if you have male pattern baldness (which your moms dad havent it doesnt guarantee you will) hair gel, etc will not speed it up or slow it down. If you have it, you have it. I would suggest the obvious of trying it for a few days without the gel that aggrivates it and see if it gets better. If so try someting else. You may want to talk to your dermatologist about your problem as their are several treatments out their that due work and significantly fight the male pattern baldness process, and the earlier you attack it the better. You are over 18 and may want to look into propecia/proscar. I suggest you do more reading {removed} for more information. {removed}

we lose 50 - 100 hairs daily.....plus replace the whole head every 2 - 4 years.

Unless you're allergic to hair dye (reaction on scalp) or allergy to the gel, it won't cause you any problems.

If you don't take the time to brush your hair before you wash it (unless it's really sticky) or brush it before you style it, it'll stick to the gel rather than fall to the floor. Plus if it's longer than usual, you'll notice it more. If you condition your hair after washing it....the ph balance will change and wash the loose hair down the drain.

It's possible you're heading in the direction of balding .....genetics is genetics. Keep yourself in good physical health, eat well, take your vitamins and wash and condition your hair regularly.

It's also possible that build-up of product can cause the hair to become brittle and break. Rinsing the hair well before shampooing will help get some of the stuff off, plus using a clarifying shampoo once a week to make sure that build-up doesn't become a problem.
