Can these things cause hair loss?

Hello,
I was just wondering if stress, anxiety, and slight depression can cause hair loss? I am in my mid 20's. My hair isn't receding, but in the front, it's thin. I went to the barber (female) and she told me that it's thinning in the front. She also said that my hair is trying to grow but isn't growing? Oh i have hair coming out front top, side, and back. Just about anywhere really. Thanks.

It can be caused by many things, including: stress, thyroid issues, low iron, certain medications, poor diet/nutrition, etc. There are so many things that can cause it. I would start with getting some blood work done and go from there. Good luck.

I would look at the area that is thinning. Can you see any new growth? If you can it means the hair is growing back. Have you had any chemical treatmets? Coloured you hair etc? If you have it could just be breakage from the chemicals and will prob grow back. Remeber, hair grows aprox 1/2 inch every 6 weeks so may take a while to show any progress. Hair also goes through thress stages, growing, resting & falling out. If your hair wasn't in the growing stage it may take a while for you to notice if it is growing back. The hair will not all be at the same stage though so you may have some 'sparser' new growth- don't panic.
If the hair is not groming then it could be male pattern baldness- which happens to most men at some point. Some ealier than others I'm afriad. Or alopecia. Alopecia can happen for a number of reasons, stress, illness, diet lacking in vital stuff. Go to your doctor and have a blood test done if you think it may be that the hair isn't growing back. They can rule out any medical reason.
What age were your grandfathers and father etc when/if they starte losing their hair? Male pattern baldness is generally genetic so if you look at that it can give you an idea of the age you may start to lose your hair.
Hope I have helped in some way and not depressed you too much.
I am a hairdresser not a trichologist and these things are meant to be dealt with by a trichologist so if you think you may be losing it and are worried it isn't your 'natural' time to thin, you should consult a medical professional.
Sorry bit of an essay.
Good Luck.

NC, your right what you say.
The problem is, their really is no cure to baldness.
Wheather its natural or due to stress.
You can try things like Rogaine and Propecia.
But for alot of people that dont work.

Re: Can these things cause hair loss?

Thanks for all those that replied. I did have blood work done. It came back normal according to my doctor. From what i can see from the thinning areas, my hair is growing. But they're like 1/8 or less of an inch. I don't put any chemicals in my hair. Never dyed my hair. But i do use Neutrogena T/gel to combat sebum (sp?). But i just don't understand why i'm losing my hair from the back and sides as well? Every time i shampoo my hair, i get a few on my hand when i run it through my hair. I purposely run it through the sides and back to see if i'm losing hair on those areas. And i am. Just don't understand. Just wondering if stress, anxiety and depression can cause this type of hair loss. Maybe i just don't want to believe that i'm losing my hair but if i'm thinning on top (the two fronts? don't know the exact terms) why am i losing hair on the sides and back? Plus i'm not receding in anyway. Don't you recede first and then thin? thanks again.
