POCS and extreme hair loss - Hair Loss / Alopecia Message Board

Hello,

I used to have dense think hair, but since my early twenties it's been thinning so much now I have to use a special spray to conceal my balding. I also suffer from a few facial hairs and irregular periods. I don't have acne and I am not over weight. The dermatologist and the endocronologist both think it "may" be PCOS, but won't say definetely. Has anyone experienced this who has been diagnosed with PCOS? I am feeling so frustrated, I just want to know what I have. Can anyone help me?

I do have PCOS but I also have an underactive thyroid. This is known to cause hairloss. Do you have unusually dry skin at all? This is another side effect. I don't have the problem with acne but I am overweight and I have facial/body hair that shouldnt be there. I would have them check your thyroid; all they need is a little bit of blood. One little pill a day regulates this. I've noticed I don't lose nearly as much hair from my head that I used to.

Yes, I feel your pain, you are not alone. I went to the doctor becuase of extreme hairloss, and was diagnosed with pcos. (I have cysts on ovaries, high LH levels, and some hair on my face too). You should find out for sure if it is pcos. See a endocrinologist. If it is pcos, they say some people benifit with their hairloss from meds, although I am still trying to find out the right combination of treatment. where is your bald spot? One of mine is in the very front of my head, and the other is in the back. I have not thougth of sprays, but that is a good idea. I will try it. how old are you by the way? I am 26.
