Anemia and hair loss - Hair Loss / Alopecia Message Board

Hi,

I have been Anemic off and on for many years. I'm 38 now and have low iron STILL. The part of it I HATE is my hair falling out so easy. I am thinking it's due to having mild to moderate Anemia.

I would love to hear from anyone who has the same problem.

When I take a shower, I can pull out quite a bit of hair. Every stroke while trying to get all the shampoo out comes a ton of strands of hair as well. Sometimes I'm a bit shocked.

My brush is always loaded, of course.

OMG! I have had hair loss for ages now and never put it down to my anaemia, i thought it was cos of the amount of tablets i am on. I am the same loads come out when i am washing my hair and even more when i am brushing it. I think i will speak to my doctor about it on friday. Thank you x

hi i think most of us on this board has had trouble with hair loss,it stops when ferretin goes up, ,mine slowed down when my ferretin reached 32.shirley

I have low ferritin @ 12 and am losing my hair terribly. I thought it was due to that. Thanks for the input.

I have a ferritin level of 1. I had a baby four and a half months ago and called my doc...he said it is common for hair to fall out after baby, but I wasn't sure he understood HOW MUCH was coming out...more than 1000 a day. My brush was a half inch thick after ONE use. Plus they were falling out all over my floors, shower, carpet, and in food..yuk!

My hemoglobin is normal...it was in the 8s after I had my baby but has come back up...

Have been in iron for 11 days...of course the hair is still falling out... keeping fingers crossed...my hairline around my face is little whisps of colorless hair,,,it sucks...
