Bald spot....poo - Hair Problems Message Board

The other day after a haircut, my friend asked me if I had cut my hair by myself....I was like no why? He said that there was a small bald spot at the back of my head just above the bottom where my hair ends and my neck starts. It's about the size of a quarter. So I go to the doctor and she said that it was a fungal infection (which I know can cause alopecia) so I've been on a cream for about a week. My question is, has anyone ever had this, and please can someone tell me that the hair grows back

I have alopecia areata. Have had it since I was in 5th grade. I'm 22 now. At first they gave me the topical ointment, but now I recieve kenalog injections in the bald spots once a month and the hair does grow back.

I have AA too. Just wondering, what's kenelog injections? Is that the same as cortesone?

Kenalog injections are corticosteroids that mimic hormones made by the adrenal glands. They are injected directly into the epidermis to trigger the the hair follicles to regrow. Not a cure just a solution.

I too have suffered from bald spots over the past 7 years. My dermatologist gives me the injections and it has always grown back. He says stress can cause it and I have noticed it does seem to happen whenever I'm under a lot of stress. Toelle
