You can have your hairdresser trim off the split ends and even up the lengths. I would usually use a razor rather than shears to do this on very curly hair. I didn't like the 'blunt' look the shears gave the ends when the curl would bounce back up. Mind you, I said TRIM and a lot of hairdressers will take off more than an inch of hair. To me, a trim is about 1/4" - no more!
After you wash your hair, towel dry and apply a good conditioner for severly dry hair. A good one is Extreme by Redken and you should be able to get it from your local salon. You can also use a small amount of straight jojoba oil applied to the ends to rehydrate the driest portion, but be sure to only apply a few drops - you wouldn't want your hair looking oily.
