Losing strands of hair - Hair Problems Message Board

Hi, I have started to notice strands of hair falling out off my head..Mind you, my hair is fairly long..covering my ears and eyes. I started to notice these strands while scrubbing my hair in the shower, when I pulled my hands away I noticed maybe 4 strands entwined in my fingers. I didnt think anything of it, until today, again, I noticed strands in my hands again. Some things I'd like to point out is that sometimes a go days without putting shampoo in my hair, as my hair is naturally poffy and when I wash it, it gets to the point of poofy-ness that I cannot work with it, another thing I'd like to point out is that I've been in chlorinated water alot lately ,the weather has been very humid lately, and I usually just air dry my hair and never comb it. I dont know if any of those things would factor in, but I'd figure I'd include it. Im just nervous I'm gonna lose my hair...at 1*! My hairdresser said its just "shedding season" but that sounds like a bunch of bs. Any tips? Is there anything wrong or is this normal?

P.S. , its only been about an hour since I've shampooed my hair for the first time in a few days, and I've already pulled a good 15 strands out. HELP!

There's a shampoo called Nioxin that really cuts down on the shed. I used it for about six months, it worked great. But, then of course my hair got 'sick' of it and wanted something new. It works best if you use all three: shampoo, scalp therapy (conditioner), and scalp treatment (a leave-in). It's a little expensive, $40 for all three as a set. It is sold only at salons. Also, as the previous poster stated, saw palmetto works really good, too. Just make sure to get the saw palmetto extract. It works better because it's more potent and stronger than the berries. We normally lose up to 100 hairs a day....and the total head of hair is replaced every 2 - 4 years.

The longer it is, the more noticable it is.

By scrubbing your hair....do you mean hard? massaging the scalp in a planned pattern will be more beneficial...also, scrubbing can cause breakage at the scalp.

There are products made for your type of hair....what products are you using now? By pouffy....do you mean curly?

After chlorinated water in a pool......make sure you wash your hair. Chlorine will chemically change the hair, breaking it down. You need to get it off the hair and condition it afterward.
