Curly hair problem - Hair Problems Message Board

I have naturally long curly red hair. I would rather it be straight but that's usually how things go lol. The problem is that when it dries it gets big and I cant stand it. It just annoys me so I usually tie it back. I feel like I can't do many hair styles with my hair because I don't want it to look messy and frizzy at the end of the day. I have tried hair spray, gel, mousse etc and it works for a little while but in about 2 hours.... poof. There it is again. I would love to be able to leave it down all day but I just don't know what to do with it. Any advice?

I could but it takes me over an hour to straighten my hair and I'm not going to do that everyday.

I sympathize with you, I've had the same problem for years and I live in high humidity New York.

You might try to mix a little coconut oil with your favorite conditioner, don't use too much otherwise your hair might look greasy, experiment with the amount to get your hair just right.
Try not to rinse it out completely.

Once after I did this my 10 year old niece made a comment that I finally got my hair done in the beauty salon because it didn't look frizzy, so I didn't say anything, I made her think it was a professional job!

A hairdresser told me that cheap Suave conditioner works well to tame curly hair but I haven't tried it yet.

Have you thought about getting a relaxer? I usually use mousse and hairspray to tame my hair. It's also naturally curly and long. I tried John Frieda's hair serum and it worked great. I had no frizz what so ever. I would still use it, but it tends to get a bit pricey.
