Hi. I have been where you are several times so I speak with knowlege.
How long is your hair?? I would definitley go to a salon to have it done. It is pricey but well worth it, esp if you have longer hair you want to keep. They have pro products that will shrink the black molecule and then they will shampoo your head like a million times to get the molecules out. After the process your hair will be VERY warm...it won't be your natural color but then you can decide which way you want to go. Maybe be a red head for a while, maybe a more natural color with some pretty highlights.
IF you decide to do it yourself....remember that color won't lift color....so don't expect to put box color on it and have it be good. you will have one color on your roots and black ends. Not pretty.
