Does Dandruff cause Baldness???? - Hair Problems Message Board

I have suffered with dandruff all my life.

And i'm noticing that i'm getting bald. i'm 28. most of my father's side started going bald( not completely but the entrances do lose hair) when they were young like me.

Still, genes may be one thing why you go bald but how about having an excessive dandruff problem.

i also pick alot at the dandruff cause it itches and i spend alot of time pikcing and examining...and i notice that my hair falls alot

Dandruff doesn't cause you to go bald. That is a genetic thing. As you said, most of the men in your family lose their hair. The dandruff is caused by dry scalp. Try using one of the shampoos that are out on the market for dandruff, or go to a dermatologist who can make sure that it is just a dry scalp and not anything more serious. She can give you a prescription for special shampoos that can take care of it. Better than sitting and picking at your scalp.

I suspect that it is likely just plain old male pattern baldness, but if you have seborrheic dermatitis of your scalp, the low grade inflammation may be contributing to your hair loss and if you keep on picking and rubbing at your hair/scalp, you can/may be developing some traction alopecia

The hair balding gene is actually carried by the female, so check out the males on your mother's side.
As for your dandruff, the special shampoos can be harsh. Try apple cider vinegar diluted with water. It should clear it up. GL
