Hi guys I am a 22yr old guy. From the past year or so I am having a severe problem of hairloss. Now my question to <YOU>guys is that just before this problem started I used to have Long hairs.. could that have been the problem.. but the point is the hair loss has accelerated despite the fact that I do not sport long hair anymore. My scalp also feels itchy.. I dont think it is hereditary..
What should I do.. consult a Dermatologist or go for a Hormone check.. I am not a heavy drinker. I am clearly at a loss.

Hi there.

Long hair could contribute to hair loss if other forces have affected you hair causing traction alopecia (you pulling it, dreadlocks, extreme use of products+dyers etc). But it's not that common.

In your case I would not rule out genetic hair loss. You should consult a dermatologist as soon as possible in order to classify your hair loss. Does it follow the classic signs of genetic hair loss like crown thinning and receding hair line? Or does the loss feel like a general thinning with a lot of hairs in the brush?

Well it is thinning in the crown and my hair line is receding..

But the point is there is also a lot of hairfall, so much so that I am scared to even touch it. I am totally at a loss.

It sounds to me that it's mainly caused by genetic factors.
Good news = It can be slowed down.
Bad news = Risk of side effects.
Look into Propecia and Rogaine.
Where are you located? I would suggest that you visit a honest hair transplant surgeon for evaluation (not surgery).
