I have a problem with what I believe to be ingrown hairs on my left inner thigh. I have been tested 3 times in the past 5yrs for STDs and came up clean each time(I have not had any sexual activity in over 6yrs). I am 29yrs old and male, if that is important. I only had one to start with, but now have two. They are about 1/2inch across, not painful, look like normal skin, but are a hard ball about 1/4-1/2inch deep. I have had one of them for over 2years now. I do know that I am somewhat overweight and this area rubs with my other thigh when I walk, which is why I surmise that they are ingrown hairs. The one that I have had the longest will occasionally(as in once every 3 to 6 months)swell a bit larger and become mildly painful, really just irritated and will eventually burst and bleed a little and then will seem to disappear for a month or two and then come back, just as before. The last time it came back, I cut it open and squeezed out the same sort of thing that would come out of a zit(this was pretty painful) and it has not grown significantly yet. The other one is very large now. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.
Sounds like a cyst to me. You should really see a DR. about it when it is infected. You can have ganglion cysts on your thighs but mainly they are seen on hands. I had a egg size one removed from my thigh. I let it go 3 years before I did anything about. Had a hughe incision from it then.
I just looked up some info. on cysts and found some skin cysts that look just like this one, although ganglion cysts, from what I could find, aren't normally found on the thigh. The kind you had was a ganglion? I guess I will just go ahead and cut this open and poor in some tincture of iodine and hope for the best, lol.
I heated a metal blowdart in the stove flame and dipped in alchohol for a while and stuck in into the spot and it let out a very small amount of puss and then bled quite a bit, but still has a hard knot in the middle of it. I tried squeezing that very very hard and took a razor blade and cut into it a bit and got nothing more, except that the blood is very dark. I guess this could be the cyst shell that I have read about? Thanks.
Go to your dermatologist and have the things surgically removed. They will just get bigger and deeper, and cutting on them yourself can cause a serious infection which could be even more costly. AFTER they are removed, condition your skin daily with jojoba oil to keep the skin soft and help reduce friction. If you do not already, switch your underwear to those fitted ones with the longer legs - I think Hanes makes them. They will help to 'buffer' between your skin and your trousers/jeans.
