I am woman, naturally blonde & 33 years old. I plucked my eyebrows for the first time about 1 month ago & was shocked that some of the darker hairs I plucked had black roots (i.e. little ball on the end of hair) and appeared to have a clear or white kind of casing around the bottom 1/3 of hair (below skin level). I began to notice that Most (although not all) of these hairs looked a little bit different (darker, thicker & courser)than the other hairs. I then decided to check other parts of my body (although I wasn't brave enough to try under my arms), like pubic & stomach. None of the stomach hairs seemed effected but 1/3 of all pubic hairs I pulled were the same. I also noticed that many of them appeared to have a 'black head' at skin level - which is one of the things that drew my attention to them I guess.
I have found out here on this site that I also suffer from Keratosis Pilaris, on my legs, arms and sometimes back - could this be related? Should I be scared? Has anyone else ever heard of this? I am very worried and need some advice.
What you are seeing the the hair root or bulb. For some thicker, coarser hair the bulb is much larger, more noticable than for smaller, finer hair. Everyone is different. Sometimes when I wax or tweeze someone with thick , coarse hair ( I am a hair stylist) there will even be a bit of blood at the follicle where the hair was zipped out. Perfectly normal to see a larger, darker root .Hope this puts your mind to rest
