Hemiplegic Migraines

Does anyone out there have Hemiplegic Migraines? All my symptoms are alot like MS, but there is no proof. I get the feeling that my Doctors are telling me this because they themselves have no clue as to what is happening. It started off with a Droppy Eyelid, then severe headaches, ear aches with loss of hearing, toothpain w/ 2 teeth loose (they have no clue why), numb and droopy left side of face with severe pain, Eyes - are really bad, I have double vision, ptosis, left eye looks black and almost dead, loss of vision sometimes and my RX has chaged 3 times this year along with Retinal holes, My left arm and leg are numb and tingly all the time, I am now an owner of tingly Heels. Since my last headace I am experiencing tingling in the right leg and arm, My skin feels like it is burnt, there is facial pain and pain in left arm that is hard to explain (pain in between bones and skin ???)

I am on 2400mg Neurontin and 150 mg of Demeral. There is little info on just Hemiplegic Migraines. I would like to talk to someone that is experiencing what I am or someone that has been disgnosed with Hemiplegic Migraines.

Has anyone tried the vitamin Migrahealth?

Thank you in advance
Kim

Budcko
that type of migraine tends to either run in a family or be the result of a head trauma. Here is one site to check out

Also, go to google search and do a search on that type of headaches. The information on the net is great!!
Do you have a good neurologist (sp?)? If not try to get one that specialist in migraines.
Try to find a teaching school if you can't afford or have access to alot of dr's.
Good luck.

Re: Hemiplegic Migraines

That is just the thing My Mom had Migraines, but they went away when she divorced my Dad (it's true, but funny) No one else has had Migraine or Hemiplecgic Migraine's for that fact, in my Family (my family is known for cancer, everyone has it). I have been through 3 Neuro's. I don't know where else to turn.

Hi:
you wrote it started with Droppy Eyelid. I do not have the headaches, but I had a droppy eyelids. The doctor send me for a surgery. I didn't feel like to go, so I cancelled the surgery. Took some time, I started to loose hair, and other things went wrong. So finaly he send me for a blood test for thyroids. My reading was 166, normal is something like 5+. They diagnosed me that I am hypothyroid. Looks like your whole immune system is colapsing. Did they check your THS? If not, rush to have it done. It is a simple blood test. Yo can die if not taking care of it. I am taking Syntroid which is a thyroid hormone, about $3 for 100 pills and for many years now I am perfect.
Good Luck Marie

Re: Hemiplegic Migraines

I have had hemiplegic migraines for over 20 years. They usually only happen a few times a year but lately they are happening several times a week. The pain is quite bearable. It is the aura's that drive me crazy. I used to get the droopy eye and numbness but that has not happened in several years. I usually just go to bed for a few hours and it goes away. I try and take some kind of ibuprofin when I first notice it coming on. That usually helps. I really don't like the way my sight is affected. Again, I have had it several times in the last few weeks. I am thinking maybe my glasses need to be replaced. I am working much more on the computer and that the brightness of the screen, and the concentration I have on the screen is straining my eyes, therefore bringing on the migraine. I am more worried about its long term affects. I also have a very bad problem with short term memory loss. My doctor says there is no connection, but I am starting to doubt it. I can't imagine anything happening in your brain over and over and not having any affect on your brain, or your memory. I don't know what else to do. I don't think my doctor thinks it is any big deal. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate it. I think I would almost like to have a CAT scan just to see how everything is in there. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks
Panky

Re: Hemiplegic Migraines

I was diagnosed today as having hemiplegic migraine, they thought I had ms so ultimately I am lucky, the headaches are horrendous trying to spell or write things down causes me distress because my spelling has disappeared and I need to proof read everything

Re: Hemiplegic Migraines

my 12 year old daughter has been diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines, she gets sore bloodshot eyes with visual disturbances, severe headache, temporary numbness down one side of her body including inside of her mouth, nausea and sickness, memory loss and confusion. she has two painkillers that she has to take as soon as symptoms appear and the dr has advised me to keep a diary as to how often they occur and any triggers that may be causing them. she had one again last tuesday.
