Pain Clinics - Headaches & Migraines Message Board

I have been suffering for 12 years and lately I have found myself in cronic pain. I have been though all the meds, mri's and nuroliogist. Someone recently told me about a thing called a pain clinic that will help me "create" the right meds for me while helping with the withdrawls from the hydrocodine that I have been taking for 12 years. Has anyone ever been to one or had any experience with one?

I really can't offer any advice on the pain clinic but i too have been struggling with this also. Just lastnight i was at the hospital for six hours on a moriphine drip because of all the pain of a migraine. I can't wait to see what people have to say about your question because i'm going to make a appt with a clinic on monday because my nero don't understand me and because it takes so damn long to get into see him. So,,,on top of your question i would like to ask one too.. What kind of meds do the pain clinics give for migraines when you have tried so many of the other migraine meds that didn't work??

Deana72 I do not have any experience w/a "Pain Clinic" however, I am currently going to a "Migraine/Headache Clinic" which I found in the yellow pages!
The weaned me off the medications my prior Neurologist had me on & put me on another migraine management program that is working.

I had to wait 3 months for the first office visit.
The first exam took approximately 2 hours. After the exam the doctor took me into her office & talked to me for another hour asking me detailed information about migraines, asked about my migraines/headaches & family history of them.
For 3 months I saw the Neurologist every month. Now I see her every 6-8 weeks.

TO losingmymind: "my nero don't understand me "

I was unhappy w/my original Neurologist that my family physician had recommended. Kept pumping me w/anti depressents....I kept telling her I was not depressed. Zoloft was one of the meds. So I just stopped going on my own. Checked my local yellow pages & discovered the Migraine/Headache Clinic which was right down the street from me! It is also nationally known & has a website.

MS. Migraine,

I am also from NJ, but the nothern part. If I can go to a place that has a great reference I would like to look into it a bit more. If it works, I don't mind taking the drive, but I have to get weaned off this hydrocodine. They have become so much more frequent that I have been having withdrawls. Last night I was so bad and today I am no better.

How was the weaning process?

Hi! I am so sorry about your hospital ordeal, but I do understand! From what I understand the PC will work with different types of meds to find the right combination that works for you. So, for example, hydrocodine seems to be the only thing that works for me, so they will ween me off of that and find a combination that will work the same with out the addicting effects.
