We decided that I would try 10 mg of Pamelor and see if it's enough to still work on the headaches, but not give the negative side effects. She said to give it 3 weeks and if my head is still bothering me (or the side effects are still bothersome), she would give me a LOW dose of Inderol (I have very low blood pressure already). In addition, if the Pamelor doesn't work, she will refer me to a neurologist. She said she did not feel comfortable prescribing me any of the other meds I had told her about (Topamax, etc), but a neurologist might.

Inderol will lower your blood pressure so be very careful if it is low already. You should see a neurologist that is knowlegable on headaches. He should recomend topamax or any one of a list of many different meds to prevent your headaches. Good luck!

Why is your doctor uncomfortable giving your Topamax?

Karla is correct. Make sure you find a Neurologist that specializes in migraines/headaches.

I think it's because Topamax is not specifically for migraine headaches and since she isn't a neurologist, she would rather not have me try it. That's why she said if the Pamelor didn't work at the lower dose, she would refer me to a neurologist but also give me a low dose of Inderol in the meantime.

I know Inderol lowers your blood pressure. I was on it once a long time ago (when I was 16) and it did help with my headaches but I had to be careful. If I sat up out of bed too fast, I would see black for a minute or so. I had to stand up carefully. But I'd rather have that than a headache.

We'll see what happens. Last night I took 10 mg of Pamelor and I don't have a headache this morning but that could also be coincidence.

I was just curious, are beta blockers that much different than calcium channel blockers...I mean in the respect of lowering - low blood pressure? My neuro had me on a calcium channel blocker and I have really low BP, and she said not to worry about that... and I never had a problem. My regular doctor was the one who was shocked that I could be on the blood pressure med with such low blood pressure...but the neuro had experience prescribing calcium channel blockers for migraines and said there isn't anything to worry about.
So, with that being said...is the beta blocker that much different? Anyone's input would be nice.

OR, Maybe you could look into verapamil -calcium channel blocker as a migraine preventative if the pamelor doesnt help. Good luck!
