Exclamation Flash Headaches?

lately i've been getting instant headaches. they startup fast and only last 3 seconds and they're completley gone. I have yet to find the real term for this, If there is one. It is a quick, sharp pain that occurs two inches above the left side of my forehead. I wasn't sure if it was stress related, I started up a new school semester about 2 weeks ago, and work also has me pretty stressed. I've been noticing these sporadic headaches since school started but i have a feeling they've been going on longer, i just haven't been paying attention to them before. anyone have any thoughts?

James

Hi,
I'm not sure what causes them, but I have been getting the same type of pains above my left temple area. I get it several times throughout the day. It is very sudden in onset, but goes away within a few seconds. I would describe it as a stabbing pain. I also notice that sometimes my left eye aches along with this.
Sorry I don't have any answers for you. Hopefully someone else will have an idea on what might cause this.
hilery

Re: Flash Headaches?

I've had that same type of pain on the side of my head and eye for years. All my doctors say it is tension in my neck pinching nerves because of my fibromyalgia.
My eye will even quiver (is that a word)sometimes.

Re: Flash Headaches?

I sounds akin to the "ice cream headache" that we all know so well.

My guess is some nerve root is irritated...maybe some neck massage or gentle traction might give relief.

I doubt that it's dangerous!

Re: Flash Headaches?

Sounds like icepick headaches, which are often treated with Indomethacin to relieve the inflammation (they seem to think it's a nerve thing).

Re: Flash Headaches?

Sounds like icepick headaches to me. An earlier poster mentioned cluster headaches. I really don't think that is what it is. Cluster headaches last for 30 min. to 4 hours or so. The shorter fast acting headaches are something different.

Re: Flash Headaches?

I too get these sharp "Ice Pick" like headaches. They are so painful that I have to stop what I am doing and just sit for a few moments, a major pain expecially if I am driving. My doctor has chalked them up to bone spurs in my neck.
