I have been having severe headaches on one side of my head for about a month now. I either have a headache or a constant tension in the back of my neck and in my temple. It is always the left side, it seems to happen either when I wake up, early in the am or at night. They are throbbing starting in the back of my neck and then migrating into my temple, behind my eye, down into my cheek, sometimes in the left side of my nose, and always in my upper and lower jaw. These headaches always come on with immediate nausea, and vomiting. It is getting so bad I cannot function at all. If I lay down once the headache starts and if I can get to sleep despite the pain, usually the throbbing will subside along with the nausea, but I have a constant, ache or pain in my neck and/or temple. I can't take it anymore, I cry every time it starts, it hurts so bad and is affecting my life. I want to say they are migranes, but I really don't know. I have had headaches before in my life but never like this and never for so long. I mean it is every day or at least every other day I have one, I can't take it much more. They have gotten so bad that I thought about taking a bunch of sleeping pills just so I don't have to hurt any more. Sorry this is so long, please any advice would be great. I want to go to the doctor but I am scared he will just give me some pain killers and send me off. I don't want pain killers I want relief. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you could be suffering from migraines or cluster headaches. You should see a neurologist who specializes in Ha. I have seen many drs over the years for my ha and none just wanted to give me narcotics and send me on my way. That is the last thing they want. If you are having ha that frequently they will probably try to find a preventative mediciation that will prevent your ha from occurring. They will also give you an abortive to get rid of the ha once it starts providing the preventative isn't working. There are many preventatives and many abortives and it is a trial and error type of process. It may take a while for you to find relief but you should be able to find help eventually. Don't give up! Keep fighting and by all means get to a dr!
Yes, seeing a neurologist to help you get medication to abort them is a good route to take.
I want to ask you, though, do you clench your teeth at night? You may not even realize you are doing this. Check to see: Is your jaw sore? Any molars/teeth sore? One side of your face sore? If you find that you are clenching, this can be the cause of your headache. If you find you are clenching, you can prevent it and eliminate the headache cause by getting a mouthgard (Less than $20 and worth the expense. A dentist will charge you $400 or more) at Wal-Mart.
It is just something to think about. IF the mouthgard works, you can then elminate lots of medical expense. Otherwise, if it is the clenching, and you still get periodic migraines, definitely get to the neurologist for relief!

Holly:
I started having headaches like this when I was about 25 yrs. old -- I am 40 now. Back left of head. I didn't realize it at the time but it is now apparent that the day before my period when my progesterone levels drop, I get the headache because my body can't seem to handle this hormonal change each month. After suffering each month for the last 15 years (and sometimes a few other times per month), I found RELPAX. I've been taking it when needed for the last year. If you take it as soon as you start to feel it coming on, RELPAX WILL relieve your symptoms within an hour. Eat crackers at least just as you feel it coming on so your stomach doesn't flop on you. If you get nauseous, sometimes if you take Mylanta, the mere settling of your stomach will stop your head! Believe it or not. RELPAX doesn't make me too foggy or drowsy like some of the others. It actually numbs the area in a strange and relieving type of way so I'm greatful that I've finally found it. Much luck to you.
