I would love to tell you I've found the wonder drug but it hasn't happened yet. My headaches are caused from my neck and shoulder (the labrum and tendon are torn). They're both from a car accident. I too have been on Elavil among other things and they didn't work.
I have no family doctor so I take whatever they prescribe me at the hospital. I went into the hospital with a killer migraine a few weeks ago and they prescribed lorazepam (I think it's also called ativan) and tylanol /w codeine. I get really bad headaches mostly when I'm lacking sleep or when I just have really poor quality sleep and wake up feeling like every muscle in my head and neck is tensed up. Now, I take Ativan about an hour before I go to bed and it really helps me to relax so I can sleep. The only problem with it is that it's addictive. I figure I'll deal with stopping it when that time comes but for now I really like sleeping!
I think you're smart to tell the doctor you don't want to take neurontin. I've done a lot of searching online about it and it seems to be mostly bad news. I wish you best of luck in whatever your doctor decides on prescribing and if you find something that works let me know!
