Hi all ...

I've been posting elsewhere on this site (isn't it fantastic??) and found this little section.

Starting story: When I started high school I was 11/12 and my best friend (hmmm) pulled my chair out from under me. In those days, everything was wooden, including the inkwell desks, and the back of my head whacked into the table behind me. Lo and behold, I'm out cold, bleeding profusely all over the place. Fast forward, scar still on scalp, and regular blinding migraines. Billous (sp?) attacks, blindness, the AGONY ... the only thing that fixed my migraines was sleep.

Fast forward to my late 30's ... I've been regularly get agonising migraines since the chair incident, head banging material 2 - 3 times a month. I've tried tracking them, I've tried the migrain medicaitons, but a chiropractor found a fractured vertebrae in my neck and thus explained the migraines. So lots of over the counter drugs to knock me out and life is 'put-upable". Raising 3 kids, shiftworking hubby and migraines is a challenge, but my kids were good and when Mum was groaning on the lounge in a darkened room, they would totally back off. Not bad for toddlers!! LOL

So fast forwarding again .. Early 40's, I've gained a truckload of weight, I'm depressed, I'm moody, my periods are AWFUL, my hair is falling out, my nails are brittle and if I never had sex again it would be perfectly fine with me. I go and see a doctor. One blood test later, and we find my thyroid has decreased its functioning .. they put me on Oroxine (Synthetic Thyroid Hormone I think).

Voila .. no more migraines.

Occasional *real* headaches that are fixed with a little paracetamol, but ONLY headaches. Do you know how LONG it's been since I had a NORMAL headache? It's almost a relief!!! I can fix these without drugging myself silly!

so I went to the doctor and pointed out my findings, and he said "not related", so I spoke to another doctor and he said "worth an investigation" ... not that they have, but hey ... I'M not complaining !!!!! I don't have migraines anymore (although now I've put it down in print, what's the bet?? LOL) ......

So .......... if you have debiliating migraines, unexplained weight gain, lethargy and a general feeling of BLAH .. get your thyroid levels checked!!!!!!!
