What migraine preventative do you use? Does it work? What are the side effects? Currently I am taking Topamax but it's so expensive.

A Migraine specialist recommended a herbal suppliment called Migralief (sp?) - (not to be confused with a prescription drug called Migraleive on sale in the UK)

He said the herbal suppliment helps to prevent migraines happening in the first place. I haven't tried it as I only get migraine about once or twice a year.

Our daughter is on topamax for migraines but it quit working so our GP added Nortriptaline (anti-depressant) and she has only had 2 migraines since. I believe the 2 migraines were from her eating toooooooooo much chocolate.

The nortriptaline is an old way they use to deal with migraines. Seems to work. I know its alot cheaper for us to buy.

Hannasnana ~ What dose of the Topamax is your Daughter on now? How about the Nortriptyline? I'm on the same combo and am trying to find the right doses for me. Just curious of her combo. Thanks.

I've had headaches for 20 some years ,I always thought they were sinus until I was diagnosed with Graves disease . My Dr. told me to let my family Dr. know he thought they were migraines and she immediatly prescribed Imitrex , they take my headache away within 20 minutes !!!
