Zonegran - Headaches & Migraines Message Board

Hi.. I am fairly new here. I mentioned on an earlier post that I was starting a anti-seizure medication, (Zonegran) on Sunday. I took it Sunday night before bed. I had a terrible night sleeping. I had weird dreams all night. I woke often having to go to the bathroom. It was an all around bad night. The next day I felt druggy all day and worn out probably from the pill and lack of sleep. I took it again Monday night but slept through the night and didn't feel to bad the next day.. same thing each day this week. But.. I have still have had a migraine each day. I take Zomig right away once I feel it starting. I don't want it to get so bad I can't stop it. I am hoping once the Zonegran gets in my system good the migraines will stop or at least be cut down and I can cut down on my other pain meds. I am going to give it at least a three week trial, maybe four. I will keep you posted as to how it is doing. I have my fingers crossed that this will work.

My daughter has been on Zonegran for about 3 years to help prevent migraines. She is now up to taking 4 per day. The only effect it has had on her was weight loss, which she didn't mind. I can't say that the Zonegran works for her as she still occassionally gets migraines through out the year. I guess the only way to find out is to stop. Her really bad time of year is the last week of March, first week of April when the headache lasts about 2 weeks. She has been hospitalized for 2 years at the same time to get relief. They gave her DHE. Maybe you can try the Migranal nasal spray which has the DHE in it. Good Luck
