Incapacitating Headaches/Chriopractic Care

Hi, My name is Trish. I am a 24 year old female that has basically lost my life to my migraines. I have piercing migraines. They begin behind my right eye and move to the left. They it feels like the migraine moves and takes over my whole entire head. It throbs so hard. I go blind, get nauseous (sp), and most of the time I pass out due to the extreme pain. Imagine a little girl screaming...do you know how sometimes it is so loud it is litterially piercing to the ears. That pain is how my HAs feel.

First off, I am sorry, this is kind of a long message. But I don't know where else to go. I started getting my HA 2 years ago. At first they came every 2 months, then every month, then every two weeks... At the end of March 2004, I was hospitalized for 7 days. The extreme migraine would not subside. I was giving Morphine for the pain. Mid-week they realized that it just kept making them come back every 3 hours. While in the hospital, I also had a chest X-ray, MRI, CT, EEG, EKG, and lots of blood work. Everything came up negitive! The only thing they saw in the MRI was a small shadow in my brain.

On the 7th day I was released home, with no improvement. I was sent home with Torredal for pain, a medryall (sp) pack, and Imetrix. Neither the pack or Imetrix did anything. I went to the Cleveland Clinic to their headache department. Because of the shadow the doc ordered another MRI. Nothing new in the MRI, but the shadow was still there, but it was confirmed that it was not a tumor. He sent me home with a large amount of drugs. Another Medryall pack, compazine for nauzea, Depecote, and a Zomig nasal spray. Nothing did anything but put me to sleep only to wake up again with a piercing HA.

We called the Cleveland Clinic and they ordered a four day infusion of DHE. Each session was 5 to 6 hours long, sending a large amount and variety of drugs into my body through an IV. Of course, being very drugged up, I was drowsy and HA free. Untill it all wore off. Then it started up again. The doc ended up giving me Seroquil saying he didn't know and wished me good luck.

Very frustrated, I then heard from a friend that I should see a chiropractor. I saw a chiropractor 3 times a week for almost a year and noticed a differance BIG TIME!! I went from 4 to 5 HA a day to 2 or 3 per week. That still sucks but I can be pain free for some days of my life. If you have not seen a chiropractor ...DO IT. It helps and in many cases will fix you. Invest in Chicken Soup for the Chiropractic Soul. It helps show a light at the end of the dark tunnel.

Did Chiropractic care fix me? Unfortunately, no. Although I have noticed a large bump in between my shoulder blades, right at the base of my neck and it seems to be growing. It is not a hard bump, but almost liquidy.

I sleep with an ice pillow on my neck. I heat, massage, and then ice everyday. I also see a massage therapist. They have told me with I have a muscle spasm on my neck, but it does not go away. Any information you have would be very helpful. If you have any questions for me, please ask, I would love to help anyone I can. I ahve not been able to work for nearly a year, nor can I do anything physical including love-making with my significant other. Please help me, so I can live again.

Oh Trish, that is a terrible story. Im so sorry your going through that hell. A couple of thoughts crossed my mind reading your post. Have you had an allergy test done? I've had ocular migraine for 18 years. A few years ago, I got the flu and stopped to get some throat lozengers. I bought sugar free because it was the closest to my hand! All that day, I had the worse headaches ever and the following days. When I ran out of lozengers, I was still sick, but ....no headaches, just the other yucky stuff. Then I drank a diet coke, which I never do, I hate coke, but there was no sprite and the terrible headaches came back again. I started to connect the headaches with "sugar free". I called my doctor and asked if I were crazy and she told me that all sugar replacement (except Splenda) are major migraine triggers and to avoid them at all costs I was shocked. I normally ate low fat yogurts at lunch on a daily basis or low fat candy bars, and after I eliminated all low fat and diet stuff from my diet, the headaches vanished by at least 80%. Look at what your eating and see if something could be triggering the migraines, experiment. Try taking Vitamin B12 that ladies were talking about in previous posts. Hit it from all angles. Please let me know how you get on. My prayers are with you.

Re: Incapacitating Headaches/Chriopractic Care

hi,i dont want to worry you but i had a friend who had a shadow on a scan and it turned out to be an aneurysm. it sounds as you have been thoroughly checked out anyway and you are improving your headaches so this probably isnt the case but may be worth just checking with your doctor that its really nothing to be concerned about.
best of luck x
i too suffer chronic daily headaches and i know its hell!!

Re: Incapacitating Headaches/Chriopractic Care

HELLO TRISH,
I HAVE BEEN HAVING MIGRAINES FOR A YEAR AND A HALF, EVERYDAY. I AM 47 YEARS OLD. NO ONE KNOWS WHY THEY STARTED THEY JUST DID. I HAVE BEEN THRU ALL THE TEST. FIRST THEY TELL ME I HAVE A PINEAL CYST. THEN THEY TELL ME MAYBE I DONT AND IF I DID IT WOULDNT BE THE CAUSE OF MY HA'S. I HAVE TRIED EVERY TRADITIONAL MIGRAINE DRUG WITH NO RESPONSE. THE ONLY THING THAT HELPED SOMEWHAT WAS STEROIDS. THEY CAN MAKE ANYONE FEEL BETTER FOR AWHILE NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE CHECKED HEALTH BOARDS RE THE MIGRAINES. I HAD THEM UNDER CONTROL TO AN EXTENT MEANING I WASNT TOTALLY DISABLED EVERYDAY. THREE DAYS AGO THEY STARTED BACK AS SEVERE AS THEY WERE IN THE BEGINNING WITH NO MEDS. IT MAKES IT HARD TO GO ON SOMETIMES. THE PAIN MEDS THEY GIVE ME WILL TAKE THE EDGE OFF SOMETIMES BUT THEY DONT WANT ME TAKING THEM EVERYDAY. THEY WILL DEFINETLY CHANGE YOUR WHOLE LIFE. I DO EVERYTHING AROUND MY HA'S AND I CAREFUL WHAT I DO SO I CAN KEEP WORKING. I WAS OFF WORK TWO MONTHS WHEN THEY FIRST STARTED. I ASK IF THE DR WOULD GIVE ME PAIN MEDS SO I COULD RETURN TO WORK. HE DID. MY DR IS A NEUROLOGIST AND A HEADACHE AND PAIN SPECIALIST. I THINK I HAVE HIM STUMPED. I HAVE NOT TRIED A CHIRO BECAUSE MOST DAYS MY HEAD HURTS SO BAD THAT I CANT IMAGINE SOMEONE MESSING WITH MY HEAD. I WILL KEEP CHECKING THE POST. MAYBE SOMEONE WILL MENTION SOMETHING I HAVENT TRIED. GOOD LUCK AND YOU'RE IN MY PRAYERS.
REDKY
