Sharp stabbing pain at base of head since yesterday...
Yesterday after a long day at work, I started getting a sharp pain at the base of my head on the left side. I would describe it as a sharp stabbing pain, that occurred about every 5 to 10 seconds. After taking some excedrin, it eased up, but in the middle of the night it came back with a vengance and I was up at 6 this morning looking around online to see what the hell was wrong with my head. The closest thing I could find was called an ice pick headache, but the description didn't quite seem right. I think they called it occipital neuralgia, with the main cause being a compressed nerve -- that seems too serious for this out of the blue pain. I've never had a headache like this before and the OTC pain medication isn't working anymore.
It's driving me crazy b/c the stab is happening every few seconds and nothing eases it. what could this be? What can I do? Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
