Topamax -- Potassium, Calcium

I'm not getting a very clear answer on this question. The Dr. told me to eat a banana or a grapefruit and it should take care of the foot tingling. My question is this: Does Topamax cause people to develop Potassium and Calcium deficiencies? Or are the food tricks just ways to boost minerals that could help stop the side effects?

This part actually bothers me a bit. If somebody knows please answer.

Thanks.
