Headaches Caused By Back Problems...help!!

Hello, I'm writing for my daughter who's 22 yrs old. For about 2 years now she has had bad headaches which her chiropractor told her is caused by a back injury she had then. He told her regular medicines for migraines won't help because the cause is her back. Does anyone know about this or anything she can do to help? Oh yes, and during her period she keeps the headache the whole week. AND, sometimes they are so bad they make her sick to her stomach. THANKS!!

Re: Headaches Caused By Back Problems...help!!

It get migraines also. Some of mine are caused from neck/shoulder problems which I also see a chiropractor for. Since I started going, I have started getting less headaches. I think a chiropractor can help. However, if you are saying that during menstruation, your daughter is keeping the migraine the whole week (any headache that lasts a week in my book is a migraine) then I would say that her back isn't the only cause of her headaches.

Many women experience killer headaches during that time of the month especially if they are on any type of birth control.

So, the chiropractor will most likely help with the headaches, but it's definatley not a cure all.

Re: Headaches Caused By Back Problems...help!!

When her back first started hurting, she went to the chiropractor a lot, twice a week. Gradually went down. She was going to a regular specialist who said only thing that would help is pain killers, but she has 4 small kids and can't deal with the side effects, anyway she said the chiropractor has helped some with the headaches. I was just wondering why regular meds won't help if it's caused by back trouble, or is he just saying that to keep her coming back?

The regular meds should help with the pain. I don't know what she was taking, but I am sure the chiro does want her to keep coming back. The pain medicine is only going to temporarily cover up the problem; not fix it.

I still take pain medicine for my headaches while seeing the chiropractor, but I have noticed a big difference since I have started going. I don't get near as many headaches.

"Regular meds" do not target a migraine. You did not list the meds your daughter is taking for her migraines if any.

There are certain meds that are prescribed by Neurologist & General Practictioners that are specifically made to target migraines only.

There are certain foods that can trigger a migraine.
Weather can trigger a migraine.
Smells can trigger a migraine.
The list can go on & on.

Your daughter should keep a migraine diary to help her determine what is triggering them.
She adn/or you can do a Google search for them. In the search field type headache diary or migraine diary. You may be able to print them out on some sites.

Same can do the same Google search for migraine triggers.

Good Luck
