Re: Has anyone taken a med that DID get rid of your headaches?
I have had migranes for about 15 years now, generally 2-3 times a week and sometimes lasting for weeks.
When I was about 18 I was trying to find something that worked that didn't turn me into either a vegetable or a complete *****. After about 5 medications my doctor put me on a medication that is not typically used for Migranes, but for rheumatoid arthritis, called piroxicam. I took it for two years 1 pill every night as a preventative. In that two years I had one headache.
I stopped taking it because I began travelling with a musical production and couldn't get my perscription every where and still was without migranes for another 2 years or so. Then I began to get them again, one every few months with increasing frequency until I was back to 2-3 a week.
So at age 26, I went to my doctor (not the same one) and requested the same medication, (I am too much of a scaredy cat to try any of the new ones, I just don't trust the FDA right now) he had never heard of it's use in that manner but was willing to trust my experience and for a year now I have been back on it and have had 2 small headaches in the past year.
It is wonderful, although I don't know if it will work for everyone, it has been a life saver for me!!
