| Re: Anyone taking Propranolol? Does it work, etc..
Hi. I have had great success with Propanolol, you will be happy to hear! I am 53 and since I was in my late twenties had occasional migraines, with the aura.Like you, I panicked when the aura came, and took Advil which seemed to help. I tried lots of different things, even some migraine medication which I put under my tongue right as soon as the aura hit. Most of those things just took the edge off. Then about 5 years ago the auras disappeared, and my headaches became pressure headaches that the dr said were migraines, only a different kind. They seem to be associated with menopause. They were so uncomfortable, I could barely function. The doctor tried mega doses of riboflavin, massage therapy, diet restrictions, and nothing seemed to help. I was keeping a diary, and I was getting them every third day. That was a year ago, and the doctor put me on Propanolol. What a miracle! They stopped immediately. If I ever think I may be getting one, which is very rarely, I take 1 Advil and it disappears immediately. It totally changed my life. After a few months I went to the doctor again because I felt very tired a lot of the time, like I could go to sleep at the drop of a hat. So she switched me to Nadolol, which I am on now. It too keeps the headaches away, and I am not as tired. One of the side effects is the lowering of blood pressure, so that is why I was tired. My blood pressure was always on the top end of normal, and now is the low end of normal. About a month ago I had 3 aura headaches in a row, which scared me to death since I hadn't had one in a couple of years, and the doctor said it was probably stress related, and to let her know if it continued, which it hasn't. So that is my long story, I didn't mean to be so wordy, but thought you would like to hear a success story.-Liane.
