Chronic Daily HA (aka new daily persistent HA)

I'm a 26 y/m nearly two years into a lifestyle that just makes quality of living very difficult. I'll try and be brief. I've been through every test imaginable (ct, mri, blood tests, etc.), and my diagnosis is "new daily persistent ha".

Anyhow, not a single day goes by, not a single second that I don't feel this headace. Generally, I wake up in the mornings, and my head just feels a constant pressure. It's somewhat like a band around the inside of my entire head. My mind is foggy, but mornings are usually managable. It's something like being intoxicated, but with none of the pleasant effects.

After lunch, the pressure becomes a pulsing, and sometimes a throbbing headache. It becomes much more diffiuclt to concentrate and it is very annoying and often painful. It is exaserbated by stress or if I become hot.

By the end of the day, I am physically exhausted, and I have a pounding headache. I am dead tired and all I can do is watch television.

I have been taking 75 mg of amitriptolene (i won't even pretend to spell that right) at bedtime and have been taking 25 mg at bedtime of topomax. At lunch I'll pop 25 mg of amitriptolene and another 25 mg of topomax. I'll then take 25 mg amitriptolene tablets as needed throughout the evening.

The only real relief I get is when I'm sleeping.

First, I want to know if anyone else out there has any condition similar to mine. It hit me after one July 20, 2004 with one killer headache and has been with me ever since.

Second, I would like to know if anyone has tried any other meds. Thanks, I am very much in need of some advice.

I do know what you are going throw but the amitriptylin will make you very tired. I take that also but only 25mg at night. I was taking a good HA med but stopped it a few months back. I also take neurontin for another reason but take an extra dose now for my HA. I know what you are going throw and I hope there will be other suggestions to your post

Cool Re: Chronic Daily HA (aka new daily persistent HA)

Where are the headaches located and how long do they last ?
Interesting story , we have a family friend who is a very big surgeon in our area and his wife is a nurse. Got to talking to them and surprisingly they both told me to try a hoeopathic doctor, and they did not believe a majority of regular physicians . They said they would only use a medical doctor for the obvious things like a broken arm or similar .
Seems like many doctors just do not have any alternative but ot throw pills at you for headaches and it is quite frustrating considering headache is the #1 complaint that doctors deal with on a daily basis.
Got the name of a good homeopath from my friends , and will be calling this week . She insists I will be rid of my headaches if not entirely then mostly after seeing this guy .
I'll keep you all posted .

Also depending on where the HA is located , you can try warm wash cloth and ice combination, 2 minutes warm, 2 minutes cold. I would also try accupuncture , massage etc. just to try and avoid taking alot of pills . I know of a renowned Physical therapist who told me 95% of all headaches are neck or spine related .

They are at the core I guess, deep. Not near my forehead or on either side. And they never stop. Mornings are always better, and as the day progresses they just seem to turn from a pulsing to a pounding. I've been to the Mayo Clinic--which I wish I could get to regularly, but I live in Ohio and that just isn't practicable. I'm beginning treatment with a HA specialist in Cinci, I hope he has a gameplan. I wish it were as simple as depression or even a virus, but I just don't think that's it.

But do keep us posted with your hoeopathic doctor. I tend to think things have a physiologcal answer, a reason. I'm a lawyer and am always seeking the cause of the problem--not just treatment of symptoms. Sounds crazy. Heck, I wouldn't believe it if it wasnt happening. a 2-year headache, give me a break I'd say.

Re: Chronic Daily HA (aka new daily persistent HA)

hey,

just wondering what the status of your headaches are? I have the same condition, going on 4 months now, and am a lawyer as well, go figure. Mine started 3 days after I found out I passed the bar. Woke up one morning with a headache and nausea, have had the headache 24/7 since, the nausea was 24/7 as well, but took some anti-nausea pills to help that, but since taking topamax, the nausea now comes and goes, sometimes leaves for 8-12 days at a time. I'm hoping this time that it goes away for good . . . we'll see . . . Very afraid that I'll have it for the rest of my life as well as I have no clue how i'll function with having constant pain, 24/7 every day. I went to the jefferson headache center in philly, and was told that i had a 25-30% chance, in their estimation, of ever being headache free.

Those odds suck, and are, for anyone suffering any pain, unacceptable. I take compazine for nausea and it helps. There are times that nothing will help. I hope you find yourself pain free soon.

Re: Chronic Daily HA (aka new daily persistent HA)

Yeah, I completely agree that those odds suck and are very unacceptable, and I'm trying everything I can do to make it go away. Every one around me tells me to be upbeat and to keep hope, but it's just incredibly hard when I have this incredibly rare condition, and doctors with the most experience give me such a low recovery rate. I'm 29 yrs old, worked very hard to get to where I am, and now have to somehow learn to live every second of every day in constant pain, and that is just incredibly depressing.

Re: Chronic Daily HA (aka new daily persistent HA)

i also have similar symptons to you mine started on oct 05 the doctor has referred me back to see the neurologist again although i don't personally see the point. I have been on epilim which worked for a while, 2 different anti depressants which eventually stopped working i'm currently taking co codamol and have also started taking ibuprofen as well just to cope with the pain. I don't know what to do anymore as drugs don't work after a while and i'm fed up with taking tablets.

Re: Chronic Daily HA (aka new daily persistent HA)

I was also diagnosed with chronic daily headache... Mine started in September of 2004 with the first and worst headache of my life that hasn't left me since. I have been to about 10 different doctors, had every test imaginable, and taken about 40 different meds... The final consensus was chronic daily headache... My headaches are closer to migraines though since I do experince sound/light sensitivity, dizziness, nausea, and they are worse with changes in the barometric pressure. It is always there, every day for almost 3 years, but some days are better than others. The triptan drugs (like imitrex) usually prescribed for migraines always made my headaches 100 times worse than they were before I took them. I have found, however, that Migrin works wonders for me. On a bad-headache day, the Migrin can bring the pain down to a tolerable level. It took me 2 years to find a drug that worked to help me with my headaches, but I found one. I wish you the best of luck.

Re: Chronic Daily HA (aka new daily persistent HA)

It's been a while since posting but I'll update everyone hoping your luck is going better than mine.

I dumped the amiltriptolene (I always forget how to spell that) and tried to attack it from a depression standpoint. I'm on 40 mg of Cymbalta daily, which is not working well. I don't think I'm depressed, but over 3 years of headaches 24-7 I'm not thrilled.

My days are a constant 3 or so on the painscale, unless something bad happens along the lines of stress or my schedule gets thrown out of wack. I think my next game plan will be to go back to a different tryclicic and perhaps throw on lyrica. I have this constant dull pain which itsn't so bad, but what is annoying is this foggy head, no patience, and almost dizzy feeling. Anyone have some better advice to try with the doc?

Hope everyone is doing better.
