so this is a migraine? - Headaches & Migraines Message Board

During my pregnancy and after I gave birth in February is when the "tunnel vision" and headaches started. About 60 seconds after this aura, I would get a headache, not a severe one, but an annoying one to say the least. I thought it was contributed to my high blood pressure ( I was treated with symptoms of pre-eclampsia during pregnancy) but I got these episodes after my pregnancy and to this day almost 6 months later. They are fewer and farther between now -- about twice a month or so now. But, I am trying to understand what is causing them. Anyway, my husband had an MRI that came up all clear but he is ordered to go to a neuro because dr. is unsure what is causing these frequent headaches. I am wondering if I should go as well or is this just your typical migraine caused by an environmental trigger? Are the majority of migraines caused by an environmental trigger or can they be more serious?

Hi Rachel

Sorry to hear about your migraines. i get them daily. Migraines are almost impossible to pinpoint the cause unless you keep a diary like stating what your were doing the time of getting one.
You getting them during your pregnancy could be simply hormonal. If you are on any type of birth control pill thats a MAJOR cause of migraines. Everyone deals when them in some point of their life. but if they are interefering with your everyday life then thats when you want them checked out further or if you are vomiting and having the tunnel vision. Normally people with only one or 2 a month are treated with a on spot med. for people with them everday theres a few daily meds that are good. Im on topamax right now. in the beginning i was on it it helped tremendously then i stopped it (stupid on my part) and now im back on it again. and havent had one in 2 days compared to having a straight a migraine for the last 3 weeks! ive never had an MRI i have no insurance but i did have a ct scan. im going on 16 years of having these everyday so if i had a tumor it would of shown up on the ct scan. Migraines are also hereditary. does your husbands family have a history of them? does he get sick to his stomach with them? Im sure you are ok but maybe just for your own piece of mind you can get it checked it out. if you have insurance then heck yeah you may as well do it. Also right down the days you have them and then the following month write them down too and see if theres any connection on the dates. Good luck and i hope you find out whats going on with you and especially with your husband since hes getting them all the time. i dont wish this pain on anyone!! its awful!!

thanks for the response! I couldn't imagine suffering through them each day as you have. Hopefully, the meds will keep working for you. Typically, do you have some sort of signal or aura (so to speak) that lets you know what a migraine is about to hit? or does it come on suddenly? This is where why husband and I differ. I get some sort of warning when I am about to get it where as he does not-it just hits him.
