topamax question??

I have only been on topamax for 4 days but am starting to panic that I may have made the wrong decision to go on it. I weighed the pros and cons before taking it and decided to give it a try, but it is making me so tired. I feel like I have been drugged. I can barely lift my head off the pillow in the morning and I am only on 25 mg. I have the tingling in the hands and feet, the foggy thinking, and pop tastes awful. I knew to expect these side affects and if topamax works, I can basically deal with them--except the extreme fatigue. That is an awful feeling, especially with two young kids. My question is: if I decide to go off the topamax would it be safe to just stop taking it since I've only been on it for 4 days?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: topamax question??

I was actually coming on here to ask my own topamax question! I would probably say that stopping at this point would not be a problem but that is just a BIG guess. But i did want to tell you that the fatigue does go away or at least get better. The first two weeks were the most difficult for me and i have three kids of my own and i'm also taking care of my 13 mth. old nephew. I'm not sure what dosage you are going up to or if you are just staying at 25mg. I have never been on any major meds so i was extremely nervous especially after reading all the side effects! The one that has stayed is the tingling. It has definitely been worth it for me so far I think i have been on it for almost 6wks now. Good Luck.

Re: topamax question??

yeah its ok..i was on 25 mgs and i stopped cold turkey after a month of it actually a few times i went on it and then stopped. as long as its only 25 MGS! if you are on a higher doesage then no you can. you need to ween off it.

I stopped it for the same reasons actually my dr took me off it. it made me crazy i thought i had every disease under the sun and was in and out of emergency rooms twice a week.

The tingling and all that you described is normal but the forgetfulness will soon set it and you will buying post it notes in bulk!!!!!

For example the other day we got back from the beach and i had our truck keys in my hand and i went to unlock our front door and i was hitting the truck door lock button trying to unlock our front door LOL!!!!!

i am now on lyrica. i started it yesterday and i normally have pain and migraines EVERY day and so far these past 2 days i havent had any pain or headaches..absolutely no side effects im actually wide awke and so full of energy i feel like a new person!!

But if you dont feel comfortable with just "stopping" topamax ask your dr but im 100% sure you can just stop. i did a few times and im still standing. you know those little side effects you have will go away after about a month but i dont think the tiredness will. maybe if its working for your headaches you may want to try to stick it out. when i was first on it it completely got rid of my headaches. so it does work its just not a nice med.
Good luck and keep posted!

Re: topamax question??

and also...What are your headaches caused from? mine is TMJ i didnt think that could cause so many problems but wow it sure is painful.

And another thing. if you go to the topamax site you can print out a vouvher for 30 free pill just print it out and take it to your pharmacy. this helped me out when i was taking it because i have no insurance and those are expensive. im gonna start a post about it so others can go there.
