Tightness in side of face due to tension headache?
I freaked out a few days ago because I suddenly began to feel tightness in my face; I've been to the emergency room three times in the past 24 hours because of weird symptoms that kept showing up (I go to the ER because I do not have a primary care doctor).
I realize that, unless I had other ***arre symptoms like vomiting or vision changes, my headaches are most likely nothing very serious. I was told by all the doctors I've seen thus far that the tightness I feel in my face, head and neck are all due to stress. I admit, I've been under stress the past few days because of some issues with school, but I've never felt the tightness before. It began with tightness in my forehead right below my hairline, and then I felt it in the back of my head and neck, and today I began to feel the same tightness on the right side of my face, extending from my eyes down to my chin. I was told that I may also be in the beginning stages of the flu or a sinus infection, and currently my headaches feel like sinus headaches.
But my question is this: Would the tightness in the side of my face be due to tension as well? Also, will tension headaches continue, even when I'm not under any stress (currently)? I always assumed when I calmed down, my muscles would relax and I would feel normal again, but my face and neck remain tightened, and the unilateral tightness just began today. I've tried a couple things to alleviate the tightness, including massaging the affected areas and indulging in a hot shower. The doctor I spoke to prescribed Motrin for the pain and Sudafed as a decongestant (for my sinuses).
I found out yesterday while picking up the Sudafed that there are pain killers made specifically for tension headaches. Has anyone every used these, and do they work? I really don't want to go to the ER again because this isn't even my money going to pay the bill - I'm on my mother's insurance and I don't want her going into debt to pay for my paranoid health concerns.
If anyone can offer me any advice at all, I would sincerely appreciate it. I realize what I have most likely is not something dangerous, like bleeding in the brain or a tumor, but when anything feels awry with my head, I just tend to worry.
