what did the verapamil do. My doc prescribed that for blood pressure and headache and my bp is okay but the headaches are still there
The verapamil seemed like it did nothing for my headaches. I had a migraine on sunday, so I took the verapamil thought it would get better, but it just got worse.
I take Imitrex (sumatriptan) 50mg and if I take it as I notice the headache starting it works. It doesn't always work if I wake up with a headache but if I take a second one a few hours later, it may.
My doctor said I could take the Inderal again. So I will try that. Last time I was on it I got depression so if that happens again I will ask him about Midrin and/or Imitrex. Thank you for your help.
Try Neurontin. It is a common medicine for headaches that I have even been on before. It's a fast acting med so the relief comes within twenty minutes.
I have taken Nortriptyline, Inderal, & Verapamil. Does anybdoy know of any other medication I can try for my headaches. Thank you.
I have had migraines for years and taken about everything there is out there. I have taken Fiorinal with Coedine for a few years now and it seems to be the only thing that helps my migraines. I also just started taking Amitriptyline again (I took it about 10 yrs ago). I think I am just one of those people who will always have migraines.
I've been taken topamax 50 mg a night (started about 3 weeks ago) for prevention and maxalt mlt 10 mg for the on set of migraines. Seems to be working well for me so far.
Breathing will help the headache. Do the following breathing exercises known as Yoga Pranayam and get relief from headache/migraine.
Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Upto 5 minutes daily.
Anulom Vilom - Deep Breath-in through left nostril keeping right nostril closed
then - Breath-out through right nostril keeping left nostril closed
then -Deep Breath-in through right nostril keeping left nostril closed
then - Breath-out through left nostril keeping right nostril closed
and repeat this cycle daily for 30 minutes maximum.
Tips : Breathe into lungs not into stomach. Do not hurry. Do it slowly. Rest whenever needed (in any pranayam). Can be done in sitting position, standing or lying in bed(if bed-bound).Keep tissues handy, as a lot of mucous from lungs will be coming through the nose. Do the pranayam before eating.
Initially you can do pranayam twice a day and when you feel better, make it into once a day routine. You will notice results after one week.
Relpax work pretty quickly if you take it at the first of a migraine...also I found that it doesn't keep you down as long... puts me back on my feet in like 20 mins.. When I take Midrin I am out for awhile but when you have migraine sometimes being out is all you wanna do.. either Midrin or Relpax is great. I am starting to have to use less of both since I am on topamax daily.
