Botox injections for headaches? - Headaches & Migraines Message Board

I have posted before regarding my daughter's headaches. She has had them since 1st grade and is now a college student. We will be going to a headache specialist in two weeks to get a handle on things (again) once and for all. I am very interested in botox injections. It seems like she would be a good candidate since our main concern is that the headaches and the medications disrupt her college schedule. Has anyone tried botox? pro's and con's? Thank you in advance for any information!

I've had Botox in my face and head. If she is allergic to it like I am she will feel like she has the flu for a week or 2. It can cause your tofeel like you have fever. I was told that I could not lay down for at 3 hours after the injections. I'm going to get it again as it did work just hated feeling sickly.

Maybe if she just gets the injections for pain instead of pain and cosmetic she'll have a better outcome than I did. For just pain they usually inject in the neck and forehead

Thanks, Squeaky, for your response. Have you had other allergies? My daughter does not and tends to do well with medications. I think she is tense and was thinking the same thing..injections for the forehead and neck. Other than the flu like symptoms, have you had good results? Also, are the injections covered by insurance? I have read that they are not but am feeling it would be worth it anyway. Any input would be appreciated!

I lost my insurance after my place of work was totaled after Hurricane Katrina. I started getting Botox after the storm so I am not 100% if insurnace covers it or not. I think I read some where that if you can prove that you are using it to keep your migraines at bay then they will cover it. You must sumbit a form with documentation that you have been to other doctors and been on meds for migraines before they will consider it.

Most derm charge $10-$15 per cc of Botox. I had 30 cc which was $450. That was for my eyes and forhead and 1 injection between the eyes. I was stupid and started the Master Cleanser which is a body detox system. I did it for a week and I swear it washed the Botox right out of my face. It only lasted for 2 months. I just received my letter in the mail that it's time for my 4 month injections. I also received a coupon for 20% my total if I get Juvéderm done at the same time.

It takes up to 2 weeks for the Botox to work. It's not like you go in and before you leave you are wrinkle free. I could not lay down for at least 3 hours and I had to make exercise my face by making frowns and raising my eyebrows, squinting to work the Botox deeper into the muslces. While I had it it worked but I swear I washed it right out with the Master Cleanser

Great information..thanks for sharing. I am really interested in this. I will check about insurance before we even go. I still think it would be a good treatment for her since she has such a rigorous schedule. Even her Maxalt takes her out of the game for a day because it makes her so groggy. Thanks again, Squeaky.
