Headache loss of vision worse when I bend - Headaches & Migraines Message Board

I have had migraines for years but always on the right side and for 24-36 hours at a time

recently i have experinced shot sharp pains in the left side of my head. I get dizzy and sometimes lose vision in the left eye durin this pain. It seems to come when I bend, lift, sneeze, cough, etc but other times it happens for no apparent reason

I hope someone can help me identify this problem, thank you

I have suffered with sinsus headaches for a long time. I too get that tunnel vision. At first I thought I was losing my eyesight but it would always go away after about 15-20 minutes. I haven't had one of those episodes in a long time. I found going to the chiropractor helps alot. I think it has to do with something in my neck. I also know that some foods will cause a migraine. I definiately react to cheddar cheese, chocolate, hot dogs, and of course any kind of alcohol. Try to keep track of what you are doing when you get your migraines, what you've been eating. If you avoid your triggers you won't get as many headaches. Also, try an herb called feverfew that has work wonders for me as well. I hope this helps.

Since this is something new and involves loss of vision you need to get this checked out by your doctor to be sure it isn't anything serious. Any new type of headache or vision problem should be checked out. As for you regular migraines........why not ask your doc for a referral to a neurologist and start on treatment for your migraines while you are getting these new symptoms checked out?

I agree that a doctor should be seen to rule out any disease or disorder causing this problem.

I would also reccomend seeing a neuromuscular therapist trained in atlas-axis mobilization technique. This was developed just last year in a migraine research study at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan. It may be difficult to find such a therapist as training only began last spring.
