Hi everyone,

I am new to these boards, but unfortunately not new to migraines. I'm a 30 year old male, and have had them most of my life, and have been on scores of preventative and abortive meds. Luckily, as I've grown older they have tapered off, and are still persistent but don't hit me as hard as they used to (plus Imitrex has worked wonders for me).

I have had many an ER visit due to migraines, and am almost always given a heavy duty pain med, like Demerol. I haven't had to go to the ER for a migraine for about 4 years, but had to go earlier this year.

I have had SEVERE reactions to DHE and Compazine; both make me feel like my skin is crawling, like there is an internal engine inside me that kicks into overdrive, and I become agitated and trembling. I told the ER staff this, and was given Droperidol, and had the same exact reaction; it makes me drowsy and does seem to help the pain, but it feels like being eaten alive by ants, and lasted for 3 days, I was nearly hysterical. I couldn't stop trembling and shaking, and wanted to die because I was so agitated, uncomfortable.

I tell my doctors this, and they look at me like I've got a third eye, and I've tried researching and have even asked them to help me research these drugs, and we usually find little.

Has anyone else had similar experiences? I feel very isolated and unique, and confused. I've found marginal research to suggest that Droperidol (a sister drug of Compazine) is an older drug, and was used a lot in the 50s and 60s, has some of these reactions in people.

Anyway, I just wanted to get others' input on these, or other drugs they've been given. I've had no real reactions to most other migraine drugs like the ergos, or Cafergot, and haven't had much luck with weaker pain meds like Stadol or Toradol. Imitrex has been AWESOME for me and freed me from 95% of my migraines, but it's those 5% that worry the heck out of me.
