Hi Steve -- I read a previous post where you had tried verapamil for a few months and were just discontinuing it. Are you still headache-free.

My symptoms were similar to yours and this may be another avenue for me to pursue.

Headaches started within 2 days of discontinuing medication so I am back on the medication but just taking one Verapamil 80mg tablet at bedtime. Also with this medication one cup of regular coffee is ok but any more than that and its a headache for the following day. Also have to watch sweets.
2/18/02-UPDATE: I am back using the verapamil 2X a day. If I quit the headachs start back. The doctor said just this last week that sooner or later (usually within a one year time) I will be able to discontinue the medication. Decaf coffee is it, anything stronger gives me a headache for the following day. Chocolate also causes problems. Verapamil is a calcium channel blocker. Calan and Isoptin are the same medication and their function is dilating arteries, improve blood flow, it is good for high blood pressure, angina, and a weak heart. Dilitiazem (cardzem) is another channel blocker. My headache symptoms just came on one day and didn't leave and the pain moves around-it does not stay in one spot. Hi Stoughton! Steve nice to see a "neighbor" on here as I live in Stoughton. Since Verapamil is not a beta blocker this might be something for my husband to try since he can't use propanolol for his headaches any more as he has started allergy injections. You sound like you have had good sucess with the Verapamil do you have any more helpful comments regarding your use of Verapmil. He goes back to the neurologist in a couple weeks and I would like to take along some suggestions or ideas.
