Post Feverfew and B2?

I was told by the guy at GNC that a combo of feverfew and B2 was wonderful for migraines (i actually overheard a woman customer buying more and raving about it so I inquired). I have severe headaches daily, so I bought a bottle of the feverfew (MygraFew) but they were out of B2. The feverfew is supposed to maintain normal blood vessel tone by reducing platelet aggregation, serontonin releasse from platelets and blocking the formatin of pro inflammatory mediators. He also said that it helps tremendously with women who have problems with there periods. He said it takes 2 weeks for it to get in your system. I am going to try it as it is natural and I cannot take anything with caffeine and I just can't keep taking imitrex every day. Has anyone else tried this? does it help?

Be sure to update your doc on this so that he can be sure it won't cause problems with any other medications you may be taking whether it be prescription or over the counter. I have one question.......have they tried any preventative medications for your migraines? Imitrex was not intended for use on routine type basis it is only to be used for severe migraines that won't respond to other treatments.

I spoke to my doctor prior to purchasing and she said to give it a shot... she reviewed the information she had and said that I could try it. I have tachycardia and they blame that on my headaches. They have tried many options and the only thing that really works is when I go to the doctor and get a pain killer and anti inflam infected in my tushy. I have been on other meds, however, due to my tachycardia, there are many things I cannot take as the simplest things send my heartrate skyrocketing. Generally, my headaches do not turn into migraines, usually one per week... I have had 2 brain scans as well as many other tests, and apparently they link it all back to my tachycardia and low levels of seratonin. i eat healthier than most people I know, I stay completely hydrated... I don't put caffeine or artificial sweeteners, caffeine, etc in my body. I got my tach from taking ephedra too long and they say that it may just be life long effects... The imitrex helps, however, it makes me sleepy and makes my whole face feel funny (I can't explain this, but it is weird)... I am going to try the feverfew and see if it helps... I feel at times, hell, why not try it, maybe it will help...

Thank you so much for responding,
Chris

Good luck with the feverfew and B2. I tend to be overly concerned about making sure the doc knows what is going on when I respond here because I see so many posters who want to try anything they see or hear just so they don't have to see the doc etc. Those are the ones I worry about doing more damage then what the original problem was in the first place by self medicating or treating. Godd luck in quest for headache relief as my husband also suffers from headaches 24/7 and is undergoing treatment.

How did it go with your feverfew/B-2?

I read a book called: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Migraines - it is all about promoting a combo of Magnesium, Feverfew, and B-2(riboflavin). The dosages are key though and it is difficult to find supplements that are in a concentrated enough dosage to be what "they" call effective. There is a product online called Migra-Lieve that has all three in the 'right' dosages, but I have no idea if it works or is just another gimmick.

I've been taking Mg, feverfew (these at this suggested dosage), and B-2 (at too low a dosage) using GNC products b/c they were convenient to me. I may try the online at a later date.

These days, my migraines are slightly better in numbers and intensity, but I am doing lots of things - the above supplements, a calcium channel blocker, massage therapy, and yoga 3 times a week. I don't really care what helps as long as I find _something_. I'll worry about figuring out which thing did it after I get relief!

Meanwhile, recently, my liver enzymes have come up high. I don't drink so it's not that, and my doctor says nothing that I am taking alone or in combination with the others should be doing that, so...I don't know. My feeling is that I am taking a lot of medicine though - eating Imitrex every other day can't be good for you...

good luck!
