Zomig, atenolol, midrin???? - Headaches & Migraines Message Board

I'm a newly diagnosed migraine sufferer. My dr put me on atenolol(beta-blocker)daily and she told me to try midrin for when i get the headache. I am pretty sure she prescribed me the Zomig for when I get one of those that wont go away(which I had yesterday and it worked wonderfully), but she also pointed out it is a narcotic and probably wouldn't be good for me to take at work or driving. I would like to know any kind of experiences anyone has had with all of these meds(good or bad).

I have taken zomig to abort my ha's. Zomig is not a narcotic and should be taken at the first sign of a headache comming on. It works in about a half an hour and is wonderful. You can repeat the dose in 2 hrs if needed.
Midrin is another abortive and can be taken at the first sign of a headache comming on. It is not a narcotic.
You should not be taking zomig after you take midrin. They should be 24 hours apart. It can cause neurological problems if taken to close together. It causes seritonin uptake syndrome.
I would make sure you are talking to a knowledgable nuerologist. The dr that told you to take them together and that one was a narcotic is a quack and could be causing you harm. Good luck!

Read the labels to be sure what meds the doctor prescribed and what is written on the labels for when and how to take the medications. My husband was on propanolol a beta-blocker for his migraines but had to go off of it as he wanted to start allergy shots for his severe allergy shots and they won't give you allergy shots at this clinic if you are taking a beta-blocker. He uses Midrin to abort the headaches and it works well for him. His doc has him taking 2 at this first sign of a migraine and then one at a time after that up to 5 pills per day maximum. If you have any specific questions about your medications call your pharmacist and talk to them and they can explain things to you.
