Topmax and crying - Headaches & Migraines Message Board

I just tried to post and lost my entire message so this one will be much more concise!

Has anyone experienced the frequent/excessive crying side-effect from Topamax AND continued with it? If so, how long did it last?

I've been on it for a month and it has kept my migraines at bay and has helped me lose 10 pounds, so I don't want to stop taking it. Also, to complicate matters, some highly emotional events are taking place in my life that I believe would have me crying a lot even if I weren't on Topamax, so I'm not sure how much is the Topamax and how much is the stuff going on in my life.

I will be speaking with my neurologist about this but was curious about your experiences.

Hmmmmmmmm, sounds like your hormones are jumping, going out of whack. Pre-Menopause maybe? Hope your Neuro is a female

I had a bad reaction to topamax that I had to stop taking it. you should discuss the crying with your dr.

The topamax made me real anxious and nervous and very moody.

Topamax does mess with your hormones.

Topomax is also used as a mood stabilizer. I can't stop crying some days, so my Dr. put me on it. It's probably not the drug thats making you get all teary, and if you've been having a lot of stress you might want to just learn how to do some breathing/calming exercises to quell tension build-ups when you get busy. But you should definetly talk to your Dr about the crying, even fmaily practitioners are slipping people 'scripts for paxil for short-term stress bouts these days. Good luck.
