| Re: Around and Behind my eyes
Hi. My son is 14 and gets those types of headaches everyday. He has good periods sometimes but then they always come back and usually persist for months at time. Summers are better for him usually. His seem to start up when there is a sudden change in weather. He has allergies but was tested and took shots for 2 years which didn't help. We are going to have him restested next week and will probably start shots again, but I have my doubts they will help him. When the sinuses swell from allergies they can trigger a headache according our allergist, but not all doctors agree that sinuses can trigger migraines. I personally believe they can from my oldest son getting sinus migraines. My oldest son had a sinus surgery at age 15 and that stopped his headaches. He also started right up on allergy shots after the surgery. He is 26 and headache free most of the time.
My youngest son saw a neurologist for 5 years and is now seeing a headache specialist. He was on Topamax and it helped for awhile but everytime they increased the dose the side effects got worse so we had stop it when it didn't work at all. Now we are scheduled for Botox in about a week. I've talked to people who has good luck with botox and only 1 person who said it didn't help at all. Sometimes insurance will cover it, and sometimes not.
My middle son also gets daily headahes and is now able to go to college. His headaches seem to be better on a small dose of Topamax. When he tried the higher dose he was worse. It seemed to cause anxiety and concentration problem. He also takes several supplements, however the same supplements have never helped my youngest son. My middle son also has a lot of neck pain and tight neck muscles.
He seems to have tight neck muscles too so he takes Baclofen but it does't prevent the migraines. He is seeing chiropracter because on the MRI it shows he has a straightening of his neck spine. I'm not sure how much is cervical related. Most doctors wouldn't agree the neck can cause chronic daily headaches. From what I understand that one sided stabbing type of headache can be caused by tense facial muscles so maybe that's why the warm showers give you temporay relief. My son's is always one sided and a sharp stabbing pain above his eye that goes into a bad headache/migraine. He is not able to go to school at this time. Sometimes he has been able to go to school and sometimes I have had to home school him in the past, when he is able to study. The counselor said we could apply for a 504 next year.
I hope you will fine some answers soon. I will be glad to help if I can, but my knowledge is limited when it comes to these daily persistant headaches. We are going to try to get him into pain clinic as soon as possible.
